This week’s Meet-a-mom is Dr. Jade Richard from Denville Foot & Ankle. We are so happy to have caught up with first time Mom Dr. Richard and meet her family. Read our interview to hear about Dr. Richard’s favorite local places and who she relies on when juggling both a baby and a busy career.
How many children do you have and what are their age(s)?
I have one son Noah and he is 7 months old : )
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in Morris County?
I am originally from Montreal, Canada and I have lived in Denville, Morris County for the past 6 years. I originally moved to the USA to pursue my dream of becoming a foot and ankle surgeon with my first stop being in NYC. Once I finished up my DPM degree, residency brought me to Morristown Medical center (where coincidently my husband grew up near). We decided to remain in the area to start and raise our family!
Favorite things to do with your family?
We love to walk around Denville Main street, it has an incredible atmosphere. Playa bowls and Deville dairy are our favorite places during the warm weather. We also love to have family dinner at the Pasta Shop! We spend a lot of time outdoors walking the local hiking trails and enjoying the fresh air. Being from Canada, I love the cold weather and both my husband and I spend plenty of time outdoors skiing and snowshoeing when the temperature drops.
What’s one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I am a native French speaker and did not speak fluent English until my 20s!
During my spare time I am also involved as an attending doctor for the Morristown Medical Center Podiatry residency program. Here I help train and educate residents and students.
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
We love the help and parenting tips that we get from all 4 grand-parents. We also have very supportive friends and neighbors helping us navigate new parenthood while both managing busy careers. Watching Noah grow up has been a joy in our lives and we look forward to meeting other local parents when he starts daycare and school.
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
Yes! I am an associate at Denville Foot and Ankle where I practice podiatric medicine and surgery. My training allows me to see a variety of patients from pediatric to adult, and take care of every foot and ankle condition you could imagine! I have volunteered in local and regional sporting events including (most recently) the Mountain lakes turkey trot as well as the Boston and New York Marathons helping athletes and treating sports injuries.
How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Denville has been our home for the past 6 years and when the opportunity came to serve and work with the local community through my job I did not hesitate to jump at the challenge. The Denville community has been extremely welcoming since I started to practice here and I look forward to many years of growing together!
